CONserve-KAIGANGAN organizes its first Online Biodiversity Training

The CONserve-KAIGANGAN Program conducted its first online biodiversity training last November 13, 2021 via Zoom which was attended by 72 researchers and interested individuals from the Philippines. The activity aims to raise awareness and capacitate the attendees and local partners in herbarium techniques and methodologies in floral surveys.

Prof. Diana Shane A. Balindo of Samar State University provided the opening remarks as she welcomed the online participants and provided a brief introduction. The online training is composed of three topics. Asst. Prof. Marjorie delos Angeles discussed the Basic Plant Collection and Preservation Techniques, which dealt with the proper collection, preservation, and documentation of collected plant species. The next topic, Assessment and Monitoring of Forest Ecosystem, was discussed by Ms. Elaine Loreen Villanueva, which highlighted the various methodologies for woody species assessment for forest over limestone ecosystems. Asst. Prof. delos Angeles discussed the last topic of the training, Assessment and Monitoring of Understory Plants, where she talked on the methodologies and considerations in conducting assessments for understory species in forests over limestoneThis online event was concluded by Asst. Prof. Desamarie Antonette Fernandez who delivered the closing remarks.

The training was headed by Dr. Inocencio E. Buot, Jr., Chair of the Organizing Committee and Ms. Ren Divien Obeña, Chief Secretariat.
