Short Course on Biodiversity Assessment and Monitoring
The CONserve-KAIGANGAN Project 1 conducted two batches of training on biodiversity assessment and monitoring at the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños.
The first training was held on June 22-25, 2019, which was attended by professionals from the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB), new graduates from the University of the Philippines Diliman, and instructors from the Philippine Science High School – Eastern Visayas Campus (PSHS-EVC). Meanwhile, the second batch of training was conducted last September 16-19, 2019, which was participated by students of De La Salle University Dasmariñas.
The four-day short course consisted of the following activities: an introductory lecture on biodiversity; fieldwork on grassland and forest ecosystems within the UPLB campus to learn the assessment and monitoring techniques on-site; presentation of the results and analysis of the biodiversity assessment data by the participants, and a final lecture on the importance and relevance of the methods and techniques taught throughout the span of training.
This training was headed by Dr. Inocencio E. Buot, Jr., Program Leader of the CONserve-KAIGANGAN, and assisted by Asst. Prof. Marjorie D. delos Angeles, Project Staff L2, Mr. Paul John S. Tolentino and Ren Divien R. Obeña, University Research Associate I of Project 1.
